Motivation

*I wrote this last night but my computer didn't want to post.
I have been trying not to do house work on Sundays for the past few weeks for two reasons. One, having a day when I don’t work is a motivation to be productive on the other six days. For whatever reason the more time I Have to do things the less gets done. Not that I believe in having a jam packed schedule, but to much free time allows me to put things off.

The second reason is the desire to instill a rhythm and a Sabbath structure in my life. The hope its to make room for rest and play and self reflection.

Unfortunately my mad attempt at getting ready for the craft show meant these ideals were neglected. So five pm found me doing three days worth of dishes and picking up a week’s for of clutter.

As I puttered around cleaning a through drifted through my head. “At least now I can have a reason to say I am tired and rest." As soon as the thought fluttered through my head I stopped (mentally) rather surprised. It made me wonder why do I do house work?

Do I clean house because it is the right thing to do? Do I tidy up and clean and do laundry because it attends to my families physical and psychological health? Do I cook meals because it nourishes my loved one’s bodies and souls? Do I care for my house because the Bible encourages it as a way of fulfilling my role and as show of good stewardship and gratitude? Or do I do these things grudgingly out of guilt? Do I use them as a tool to gain love and acceptance from husband, family, or the ladies I interact with? To quote Ecclesiastes 4:9a “For who am I toiling?”

I know I will have days when domestic chores are just that, chores. But will I do them out of duty and obedience or as a selfish way to gain love from God or people. (As if that love can be earned.)

In her book Rest Keri Wyatt Kent explains one of the gifts of Sabbath. “If we dare to obey, Sabbath allows us to do a little experiment, to test the promises of God: what if I stop working, stop accomplishing, stop earning? Will God still love me? Will He love me just as much?” Of course the answer is yes. Nothing can cause is to loose (or gain) God’s love.

So, as I sit here on this Sunday evening looking at my to-do list for the coming week I wonder. Am I acting out of a heart full of love for my Savior or out of a heart trying to earn His love?

Weekend Randomness

*** If you are looking for the Sew Mama Sew give away scroll down. ***

We had a low key weekend for the first time since the move back in March I think. It was nice. Friday Hubby's parents watched the kids so we could go out to a nice dinner. We used a gift card so it only cost us ten bucks, which made it even nicer. After that we went and hung out with a group of friends. One of the married couples actually moved into our old duplex. It was our first time seeing it since they redecorated. It wasn't nearly as weird as I thought. They did a great job making the space "theirs". Saturday I spent most of the day sewing frantically for my first craft show coming up on the 22nd. Hope I can get enough done. Saturday night we went shopping with some of my birthday money and got new dishes and a new swimsuit. First swimsuit I bought in 4 years. Not nearly as scary as I thought it would be. I found a nice one piece since I'm not ready to show my post-two-c-section tummy yet. Sunday we had a really amazing Sabbath. We went to church and Sunday school then had some friends over for an impromptu spaghetti lunch. The rest of the afternoon was spent in naps, reading, playing. Then we watched the Survivor finale while I posted my Sew Mama Sew give away. All in all a restful weekend. What about you? What did you do?

Birthday Weekend

So I was all excited to work on some stuff for my Etsy shop this evening. Two hours till Josh comes home from work and I thought it would be the perfect time to make some items for Mamas. Unfortunately the girls had other ideas and kept walking all over my cutting mat. So I figured I would post an update here instead.

We are finally getting settled into the house. I can't wait to post pictures but none of the rooms are entirely done yet. I want to get the finishing touches done a few then I can start posting.

We had a wonderful weekend. My birthday always falls with in days of Mother's day so it's always an extra special time. This year I made the girls coordinating t-shirt dresses for Mother's Day. Bear is on the left and Goose on the right. Goose is walking now, but of course won't stand still for a picture with out help.

For my birthday Josh took me shopping for some supplies including two amazing skeins of yarn. I couldn't get the light right for this which is sad. The one on the left has a much prettier color. I am envisioning a little wood gnome doll and a little fairy doll.

Mom and Daddy sent me some money along with a beautiful antique tray for the house. It looks so beautiful on the living room table.

And in the spirit of gifts... I am participating in the SewMamaSew giveaway day. Details over here.

Always in Motion

I keep waiting for things to slow down. Spring is well on its way working towards Summer. The weather is warming and I keep waiting for the days to settle into that nice slow rhythm of summer. But with two little ones I'm not sure how likely that is this summer. In fact, the theme of life right now seems to be motion.
